Poldark (1975): part 2 recap [

Ross is deeply disappointed by ELizabeth’s decision to go on with the marriage and he tries to forget her with other women and of course a lot of drinking. I did like the scene with the sex worker, where she seems to be a little bit in love with Ross. She was such a nice lady and so sweet especially when she was advicing Ross to find a woman to love and care, although that would mean she would lose him, because that is the type of man he is! As you probably have already guessed, I am rewatching and recapping  Poldark. This romantic saga follows Ross Poldark (Robin Ellis) as he loses his fiancée, the well-bred beauty, Elizabeth (Jill Townsend), to his cousin Francis (Clive Francis). Ross ends up marrying his servant, the unlikely-looking Demelza (Angharad Rees), but his passion for Elizabeth simmers on for years. Set in late 18th century Cornwall, the plot follows Ross Poldark’s attempts to make his derelict tin mines a success.

PART 1

Ross Poldark, limping and scarred, returns from the American war toCornwall after a daring escape from a French prison camp....

Andrei, as usual, is weary of life. This guy seriously he was born disatisfied with life and sad. Well I guess it isn’t really strange with that crazy,  patriarchal, selfish father and that annoying sister of his. However when he  meets Natasha at the Rostov family home it’s like a fresh breath of life and obviously he fells in love with her. It’s absolutely natural that he feels drawn to her, since Natasha is so charming, pretty and full of life. .....

New Beginnings: episode 7 of War & Peace [

After Sonya refused Dolohov marriage proposal, he goes back to his old ways (affairs with an awful lot of ladies mostly married). Pierre finally learns (or better admits to himself with the helping hand of an anonymous letter) that Dolohov is Helene’s lover and when he meets him at a banquet hosted by Count Rostov in Kutuzov’s honor, although he tries really hard not to he allows himself to be provoked by Dolohon in a duel. Dolohov was really unfair and mean to Pierre, after all Helene was his wife and he is a rich man so there was really no reason to provoke him in that way. I have to admit though that I felt a little sorry for him. He never expected Sonya will refuse him and he dealt with it pretty badly and with Sonya being all the things Helene is not (virtuous, intelligent, interesting and with  a steady heart), he kind of fell for her. Do not get me wrong though. I think that the possibiity of being a good husband to her are almost non-exsistant, but still…. I keep thinking that it was a (slim) possibility of happiness for her or a more different and emotional life. I do love Sonya and how she ends up seems to me so unfair and sad.

Reunions: recap of War & Peace (episode 6) [

Twenty thousand men have died at Austerlitz and Andrei was though to be one of them. Thus, Marshal Kutuzov has written to Prince Bolkonsky to inform him about his son’s death. However Maria has still hope that her brother is alive and hasn’t tell his wife (Lisa) yet. Plus, she is afraid to tell her because Lisa’ s pregnancy is at an advanced stage and she is rather delicate. Her father is as awful as ever (God I really dislike that  misogynistic man). He has absolutely no interest in Maria and her feelings and I won’t even comment on how much he does not care about his son’s wife. He tortures Maria, mistreats her and blaims her for everything. He was really sad for Andrei’s death but that is no excuse to treat his daughter in this way.  I do admire Maria’s patience with him, but I admit that I find really hard to understand it. How can she possibly love that selfish, arrogand man who only cares about himself and his big, fat opinions is beyond me. In that way she does remind me of sweet Sonya . I mean all that virtue, patience and sweetness, but I think she is a little stupid. Furthermore, Sonya is far more sweet beautiful and perceptive.
